Mosquito Control Facility Remediation
Long Island, NY: (2006-Present)
Prior to redevelopment, this former pesticide storage facility required extensive soil remediation services. Brookside began this project with the removal of several pesticide mixing tanks, underground storage tanks and drainage structures. Once the storage tanks were removed, Brookside excavated and screened approximately 35,000 yards of contaminated soil. Soil screening was necessary to remove commingled wastes including concrete, tires, metal, and C&D materials prior to offsite disposal.
During the course of the excavation project, dozens of buried drums containing RCRA hazardous pesticides were uncovered, identified, and safely overpacked. To date, Brookside has loaded and disposed of approximately 5,000 tons of hazardous DDT contaminated soil, 10,000 tons of non-hazardous pesticide contaminated soil, and 10,000 tons of petroleum contaminated soil.
